\nI could have saved a life that day,
\nBut I chose to look the other way.
\nIt wasn’t that I didn’t care;
\nI had the time, and I was there.<\/p>\n

But I didn’t want to seem a fool,
\nOr argue over a safety rule.
\nI knew he’d done the job before;<\/p>\n

If I spoke up he might get sore.<\/p>\n

The chances didn’t seem that bad;
\nI’d done the same, he knew I had.
\nSo I shook my head and walked by;
\nHe knew the risks as well as I.<\/p>\n

He took the chance, I closed an eye;
\nAnd with that act, I let him die.
\nI could have saved a life that day,
\nBut I chose to look the other way.<\/p>\n

Now every time I see his wife,
\nI know I should have saved his life.
\nThat guilt is something I must bear;
\nBut isn’t’ something you need to share.<\/p>\n

If you see a risk that others take
\nThat puts their health or life at stake,
\nThe question asked or thing you say;
\nCould help them live another day.<\/p>\n

If you see a risk and walk away,
\nThen hope you never have to say,
\n“I could have saved a life that day,
\nBut I chose to look the other way.”<\/p>\n
